Megan Sparkles Dog Grooming Policy

At Megan Sparkles Dog Grooming Salon it is my intention to offer a stress-free grooming experience for you and your dog. To do this, I would ask that you kindly read the following: Your pet’s safety and comfort are my top priority.

Please ensure that your dog has been given the opportunity to be relieved and walked prior to the grooming as this will ensure that they are not stressed or agitated and get the maximum enjoyment from their grooming experience.

I  will not perform any grooming procedure that causes pain or a level of stress that I think is excessive. In some situations, this can include nail trimming.

Senior dogs

For some senior dogs the grooming experience can be a stressful event for them. At my grooming studio I will try and make the experience as comfortable and stress free as possible. Only grooming work that your dog will tolerate will be carried out as I will not groom any dog if it causes them any undue stress.

All work you, as the owner have requested will be attempted, however if your dog does become unduly stressed I will groom your dog to ensure his cleanliness and comfort only.

Dogs well-being

You as the dog owner, will advise me of any medical, physical, emotional issues, allergies, sensitivities, or pre-existing conditions and any treatment they are receiving prior to grooming taking place. Such conditions may include, but are not restricted to, prior surgeries, hip or joint issues, warts, moles, ear infections or skin problems.

In the event that I discover any conditions or problems, I will notify you when you collect your dog, or in urgent cases I will contact you when discovered. Megan Sparkles Dog Grooming can not be held responsible for any conditions or problems discovered during grooming or associated treatments.

It is your responsibility as a dog owner to make sure that your dog is free from any parasites before entering the salon. If, however your dog is carrying fleas or other parasites then an appropriate tick or flea prevention will be advised.

Matted coats

We appreciate it can be normal for even a well-cared coat to have a few knots, however, when we are presented with more substantial matting, there will be an extra charge.

Here at Megan Sparkles Dog Grooming we will attempt to de-Matt a coat, only where we feel the dog will not suffer any pain.

All of Megan Sparkles Grooming Services adhere to go above and beyond The Animal Welfare Act 2006, which states it is an offence to cause pain or discomfort and we reserve the right to refuse to do anything we think may detrimental to your pet’s wellbeing - be assured that at Megan Sparkles, we will always put your dog’s welfare first.

When a dog is presented to us in a severely matted condition- our first concern will be the dog’s welfare. It is then our policy to shave the whole coat using electric clippers with a close blade. We consider shaving an act of kindness - this will be discussed during your consultation. 

Please keep in mind that a matted coat can cause numerous health conditions including itching, irritation, and skin infections. Removing a heavily matted coat includes risks of nicks, cuts or abrasions due to warts, moles and skin folds that have become trapped and hidden in your dog’s mats. Heavy matting can also trap moisture on the dog’s skin, which if untreated can cause fungus or bacteria to grow causing skin irritations. Megan Sparkles Dog Grooming will not be held responsible for any pre-existing conditions due to a matted coat, however in the event that I notice any unusual condition I will inform you.

We will never attempt to de-matt an elderly / infirm or aggressive dog - Thank you for your understanding. 

If you require help or advice on how to take care for your dog between grooming sessions, please do ask. I am more then happy to help. 

*** Please note: Our normal grooming charges do not include de-matting, and where we attempt, there is an additional change of up to £10 for every 15 minutes additional grooming time that is required to de-matt your dog.

You, as the owner, agree to be held solely liable for any harm, injury or damage caused to your dog skin and any costs thereafter incurred due to matting.

If you, the owner are not satisfied with the groom I have delivered then please let me know on collecting your dog or within 24 hours of the appointment.  Any issues reported after this time will be treated as a separate appointment.

Uncomplicated appointments

In the event that I am unable to complete a full groom or any treatment that has been pre-booked due to excessive matting or the dog not being available at the allocated appointment time, then Megan Sparkles Dog Grooming reserves the right to stop the groom or treatment if started and request that an additional appointment is made for such work to be completed.

All additional work will be at the expense of the owner.

I (Megan Ward) have the right to work in a safe environment and therefore Megan Sparkles Dog Grooming reserves the right to refuse any groom or treatment, at any time. If I feel I am  unable to carry out or continue a groom or treatment then I will stop immediately, and you as the owner will be responsible for payment of the work carried out, up until this point.

If your dog is showing signs of aggression and or biting but I feel I can continue, then an appropriate muzzle may be used during any groom or treatment.

If your dog has behaviour problems, please let me know when the appointment is made. Please also ensure that you as the pet owner let me know if your pet has shown any signs of aggression in the past.

Additional charges may apply for extra time required due to a dog’s temperament and or behaviour during a groom or treatment.

Cancellations and No shows

Appointments must be cancelled 48 hours in advance. This gives me enough time to find another customer to fill your appointment. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment, 50% of the appointment will be due before rebooking another date. If you do not turn up to your appointment 100% payment will be due before rebooking your appointment. This is to cover my time which I should have spent grooming your dog/s.
